Homelessness places profound stress on a child’s life, and many of these stressors are compounded during the summer season. Homes for the Homeless offers a unique opportunity for over 550 children to attend Summer Camps in Harriman State Park and experience the season as a kid should – with activities including hiking, swimming, dancing, drama, beadwork, singing, fishing and much more. HFH campers are representative of the 23,000 children who live in New York City’s homeless family shelter system. They range from six to thirteen years of age, and come from families who receive some form of public assistance.
